GIVEAWAY: How Clean Is Clean?

EDIT 20.01.17: Congratulations Karen Belandbray! You have won your family car a Three Stage Interior Cabin Sanitisation with EA Detailer!

For those of us who own cars in Singapore, we have committed a small fortune for our mobility and convenience. Especially so when the family consists of young children. The family car could easily cost half the amount paid for the house you live in! We all want our living spaces to be clean and pest-free, but have you considered the cleanliness of your car? Stop a minute and think about it, a significant amount of time is spent traveling in your car. For myself, it's about seven hours driving for a full tank of petrol. This enclosed personal space is where we cough, sneeze, snack, drink and even changed soiled diapers in. Our clothes and shoes bring in dirt from the environment. We change our clothes but we don't clean the car! The car interior is the Perfect breeding ground and incubator for germs, pests and viruses.

I like cleanliness by nature and my Wife would even say I'm a little OCD about it. I like my house to be kept clean and even more so my car. There's a no snacking rule but which is slowing broken down by demanding children. I used to regularly wash the car myself, cleaning the interior by vacuuming and wiping down surfaces with a general cleaner (hoping it would kill the germs). However with increasing work/personal/family commitments, finding the time and energy has made it difficult to be consistent with cleaning.

EA Detailer is the perfect solution to this problem. They provide an interior cleaning service which goes over and beyond what you can ever expect. Instead of simply cleaning the interior and the usual leather protection, how about getting rid of pests like car roaches and germs as well?

Now I hear some of your thoughts "I maintain my car well and don't allow eating inside. There won't be any roaches in MY car." Well I had the same thought as well but was proven wrong after FOUR roaches were found after fumigation. It was shared with me that regularly carrying food in the car and the location you park your car can also introduce pests into it. Got a feeling of something crawling around? THERE PROBABLY IS!

This is the experience I had when bringing my car in for the first time.

ONE
Arriving after you've made an appointment, you will find a parking space with your name reserved for you, the start of your VIP treatment.

TWO
You will be welcomed into the lounge where you will have a casual chat with an EA Detailer representative [Victor in our case] to find out your requirements. It's called a lounge for a reason as there is a comfortable leather sofa, and taking centre stage is a full driving simulator gaming rig just calling out to all the big boys in us.

THREE
After which the service personnel would conduct a walk around of your car with you, highlighting honestly what can and cannot be achieved. They will then recommend matching services that will fit in with what you want. I chose to go with the full interior and exterior service as I knew my car was in pretty bad condition (Having really neglected it almost the past year).

FOUR
First up is to empty the vehicle of any loose items, and they mean everywhere. Glove box and all compartments, boot and they even help you look under the front seats. It is recommended you clear and keep the valuables yourself while the rest of the knick knacks found the will put into a plastic bag. This is the perfect opportunity to clean up all the junk that's not needed in the car.

FIVE
The interior service consists of a three stage Anti-Pest treatment -
Bio Fumigation, Sanitization and Ozomic Treatment
  • Bio fumigation to flush out the pests hiding inside. They use a biodegradable natural plant extract, so you can rest assured there are no harmful chemical residue. The car is totally closed throughout the process and let the fumes naturally escape through door seals and vents. Thus ensuring every accessible area of the car is fumigated. It takes about a half hour for the fumes to clear. After which the effect is immediate and I find four roaches flushed out (two on my Drivers chair, does it mean they were hiding underneath? Eww!). It's already the lowest count as there were other cars there that had much more. The current record stands at more than 200!
  • Next comes sanitation with the (insert brand) which kills 99.9% of germs and viruses including H5N1. Don't take their word for it, it was tested and certified by our own Singapore General Hospital.
  • I'm loving the extra effort in brushing out the dust and dirt from the creases in the leather.
  • Ozonic Treatment removes any odours circulating through the air conditioning system, freshens up the interior and removes any lingering smell from the bio fumigation.
  • Lastly the requisite leather treatment to protect and prolong the life of your seats. They made the effort to find a product that has less oil base, so you're not sliding around on your seat. I can honestly tell the difference.
  • Add on item: Steam cleaning (65-70 degrees) on the non-leather, fabric upholstery to get rid of dust mites. Great for people like my Son and I with sensitive nose or allergies. This service includes Tornado wash which helps to removes stains. Another plus, baby seats also get the same full treatment (vacuum, steam cleaning, tornado wash and sanitisation).

SIX
Three stage exterior service -
Foam WashClaying and Compound Polishing
including engine bay cleaning and tyres and wheels shine.

You will receive your car in the lounge. Yes, they drive the car INTO the lounge for the final inspection and collection. It feels just like getting a new car for the first time all over again and your car definitely looks and smells the part. Victor took me round the car and did a "white glove" test. Wiping the surfaces with a white glove to prove that no dust or dirt remains. After the exterior service, I cannot stop myself from running my hand over the paintwork, admiring the shine and smoothness.

I was impressed at the extreme level of detail and attention poured into every nook and cranny of the car. It definitely surpassed my expectations and more than satisfied the high standards of the OCD in me. The car looks and feels brand new again. In fact it could be even cleaner than new because of the interior treatment! The detailing service also forces you to clean up all the unwanted clutter from the car.
