GIVEAWAY: Durian Party for Six from Durian Delivery!

Today's durian party was a blast! While I was busy plating durians on slate boards [because I love a good setting to welcome my friends], my husband found his hand digging into the freshly delivered boxes of Mao Shan Wang and went, "Wah! This is good stuff man. How to share?"

*Hahhaha* Of course we shared! We are nice hosts.

Janice [themishmashmess.blogspot.com] and Ashlyn's [ashlynthia.blogspot.com] families arrived early evening of Saturday. They've never eaten durian in such atas condition before. Well, neither have I actually and we had a good laugh throwing ideas on more authentic ways of durian feasting.

The husbands said, "Durians must eat on the floor with a parang and newspaper one. Where got so ang mo style on black slabs of slate boards?"

"How about a carpark setting?" Ashlyn offered. Then everyone quipped with lots more to offer the popular carpark setting, "Yes! Open the car boot, throw some durian husks in there, pull up some stools and maybe a foldable table!" Oh my goodness. Sounds like a setting to sell durian instead *hahahha*

"Ah! Should have gone to the roof top to eat lah! Got mood!" one of them said. But erm, hot! It's still more practical to durian feast in my insta-cafe-worthy dining room.

When we came down to the last box, we were all eyeing it like a hawk. It felt a little disappointing that we've devoured the first two boxes so quickly over hearty conversations. It will all be over after this and we will have to fill the rest of our quarter empty tummies with real [boring] dinner - pizza. In actuality, we would have happily taken durian as our dinner if we hadn't ordered too much pizza which was calling for us to finish.

The flesh was soft to touch, almost butter-like and I was taking great care to pick them up carefully as I transferred them from box to plate. I knew immediately that these would be creamy.

In this week alone, I tried durians from two other stalls that were bought out of desperation [I've always only had good reviews for Ah Seng's Durian but we didn't pre-order that night]. You know when you crave for durians after seeing one too many posts on social media from your friends savouring those meaty yellowish fruit, you make sure you get your hand on some. We walked down to a coffee shop near my in-laws place after dinner and found all the durians sold out. They had only one or two left and we bought it. As soon as one durian was opened in half, I couldn't bear to eat it after seeing the miserable colour it projected. It was not yellow all around and looked a little sick with white patches over its body. Argh... I couldn't and I wouldn't. Then the second one looked alright, apparently a Mao Shan Wang. When I took my first bite into it, I had the urge to spit it out immediately. I'm just a very picky eater especially for my durians, tau sar piah, bah zhang and ang ku kueh. I don't know how to choose a good durian but my taste buds are fussy like that.

This evening's durian party was from Durian Delivery. This would be my first time trying them out and we agreed specifically that I should be treated as a regular customer and not a blogger. It was important that I was given the same kind of durians like any of you; not the best because then my review would be unauthentic.

Their durians are freshly plucked and delivered from Pahang every day. They will arrive in Singapore at five in the evening and the freshest durians you can get straight from plantation is the 2000 to 2200 hours home delivery slot. The concept of having durians ordered online and sending it straight to your doorstep like the other popular food delivery companies is amazing! I applaud Durian Delivery's bright idea of picking this concept up for families like mine where we can lick durian off our fingers in the comfort of our home with friends, without worrying if the children would get bored at an outdoor durian gathering. Ewan, Faye, Emmalyn, Kaelyn and Kaeven played themselves crazy at the playground while we adults ate greedily into our Mao Shang Wangs and Old Tree Mao Shan Wangs [bitter]!

Durian Delivery opens throughout the year whenever there are good durians to sell. They will also replace bad quality durians that are watery when it arrives to your home with better ones at no charge. However, they'd rather not sell during low durian season to avoid tarnishing their reputation.

The typical durians you eat from stores are usually a day old. That’s because they store their durians and the older durians are pushed out ahead of the new ones to make way for new stock. As durian lovers themselves at Durian Delivery, they know that every minute after a durian is plucked affects the quality of the durian. Therefore, their durians reach your doorstep within 6-12 Hours after they are plucked.

When are the good seasons? July to September, November to December and sometimes March or April.

Their prices are per 400g of de-husked durians, not in per kg price as used by normal durian stalls. The reason is that they de-husk durians to ensure easier delivery. An Old Tree Mao Shan Wang durian could cost between S$27.90 to S$49.90 per 400g pack. These ones are plucked from the oldest, most premium trees in the plantation. Mao Shan Wang is slightly cheaper ar S$21.90 to S$39.90 per 400g pack and these are sweeter than Old Tree MSW. Buy Online Here.

You've got to try it to believe it.
