GIVEAWAY: The Great LEGO Race VR Coaster at Legoland Malaysia

The Great LEGO Race Virtual Reality Coaster in Legoland Malaysia opened on 22nd November 2017 and we finally had a go on it this trip! It is a roller coaster and what a pity my kids are both too little to give this a try. We were certain they would have enjoyed this ride. It is like watching a cartoon further exhilarated with the sensation of movement and speed.

The requirement for this ride is above 4 years old and has to be at least 110 cm tall.

If you have sat on the "Project X" roller coaster before, you would have experienced this Great LEGO race roller coaster minus the virtual reality segment. This new ride took over the "Project X" roller coaster in Legoland and added virtual reality to the experience. It is a high-octane adventure that puts kids and parents alike in the driver’s seat of a racing car with a 360 degrees view of the VR cartoon.

I could turn my head behind me and still be able to see everything that's happening around me. Putting my head down, I could see my "LEGO hands" on the control panel manoeuvring my vehicle made out of LEGO. The gates to the race opened and off we went on our ride. We were immersed into a spectacular environment completely made of LEGO bricks! Not only does the goggles have a visual aspect to virtual reality, it comes with a pair of headphones too. Awesomeness!

The LEGO race queue is very handsome! It is filled with interactive buttons along the way to activate racers and LEGO boards for guests to fill while waiting.

There are five minifigure characters to this race:
1. Pirate Captain - he steers a dinghy with a turbine-powered sail
2. Pharaoh- he rides an ornate canopied bed (called a “litter”) carried by mummified servants
3. Surfer Girl - she rides a rocket-powered windsurfing rig
4. Trendsetter - she rides an espresso-fuelled scooter with a sidecar for her tiny dog
5. Wizard - he drives a dragon-themed hot-rod.

Oh wait! There are six main characters to this race! YOU! You are also a racer and just to let the cat out of the bag, you will always emerge as the winner of the race.

On my first ride with Meyer [our children were being watched by personnels from the media company who invited us], my VR googles did not work. It probably ran out of battery and I could only hear my husband going, "Woah! This is amazing! Wow! I am flying too!" He chuckled and continued with so much commentary for me who had to disgruntledly take the ride without the virtual reality experience.

I haven't heard him laughed that much all day!

The Great LEGO Race builds a universe of imagination that will unleash the inner child of everyone. It pits riders in a rollicking race against wild! It definitely unleashed the boy in my man.

We ended the ride and he had so much praise for it. Of course we had to go again! I missed the whole show! The roller coaster's operator exchanged a new set for me and I was truly wowed this time.

Only gripe was it wasn't crystal clear. Our technology is getting there. I cannot wait for a high-definition modification in the near future!

Meyer and I were being challenged to take up the #legoVRchallenge. Our task was to strike our most creative pose during the first drop of The Great LEGO Race and have our picture captured! When we were in the queue, my husband asked me what pose should we be striking. I said, "Let's dab!" He shook his head, "Too common." Then I suggested a kiss but he double-rolled his eyes at me *hahah* Anyway, how can we possibly? The VR goggles would be in the way of our kiss.

We noticed the VR googles had eyes on them and agreed that I would do a salute and Meyer would act as if he was biting his fingernails. That will look rather cute? If only we were being filmed! Because we didn't know when the first drop would be and held our pose from the start of the ride. Imagine that!

During the ride, Bluetooth technology will sync the virtual visuals with the roller coaster’s twists, turns, drops and climbs, creating an all-new experience filled with thrills, spills, surprises and humour – done in LEGOLAND’s brilliance.

The next time you make a visit to Legoland Malaysia, be sure to give this a try!
