FILM FEATURE: Nippon Paint X #mmlittle家 Behind The Scenes

Filming is hard work. I answered like a million interview questions and spent probably about four hours with the crew just to get a minute-long video out. Oh but I knew it was going to be like that when we shot the house because my precious filming experiences were all the same. Something along the lines of "90 minute filming for 8 seconds of screen time".

Reason being, there is a need to film as much as possible to get enough footage for a solid video. There was no room available for re-takes and so they would rather interview me with 30 questions to get three answers on clip rather than put all their eggs in the basket for just three questions.

We spent the morning doing interviews mostly and the team went around #mmlittle家 filming the walls that Nippon Paint had covered during the course of renovations. It was a peaceful morning because the children were in school! We could document as much as we could without the interruptions of the little ones.

Nippon Paint painted our wall skirtings in the living and dining room, corridor, bedroom doors and Ewan's bedroom. Hanzhi from The Joy Troopers also used a series of paints from Nippon to do up Faye's beautiful wall mural in the playroom!

Everyone took a lunch break while I went to pick Ewan and Faye back from school. The team wanted the involvement of the children and so they waited.

There were a few scripts for the kids and some scenes the media crew wanted the siblings to execute. I could only hope for patience from the team. Oh children being children [mine are definitely not child actors], they go with no flow whatsoever!

"Hey children! Cuddle up with mommy on the couch and say THANK YOU NIPPON PAINT!" requested the camera crew.

What seemed like the simplest thing to do, took us 15 minutes of bribing [macarons and YouTube] and pleading plus a series of NGs because Ewan did it in his chipmunk voice, robot voice followed by screaming voice. Throughout it all, my daughter was radio silence. Ya, when we tell her to stop talking, she can't stop yapping. When we tell her to say something, she just purse her lips shut.

Although we finally had a good cut at the end [or maybe we just collectively agreed to give up], it didn't make it up on the official clip. We had fun though! Watching the Behind The Scenes video, I cannot believe my patience. If it was Meyer, he would have gotten angry with the children for wasting everyone's time.

Then came the scenes with the kids introducing their bedrooms. Oh that was not the easiest too!

"Hey Ewan, bring the cameraman to your room and say excitedly that you like your Batman room!" I  ordered as per request.

Oh yes he did but he said something along the line of "I like my Superman and Batman and Green Lantern and Justice League room!" Erm son, but you only have a Batman room hello?

Then with Faye, "Faye! Say I Love My Bedroom and show the cameraman around your room sweetheart!" Guess what she did? She ran around chanting, "I love my Batman room! I love my Batman room!"

All these cheekiness! So there, the reason why we took forever to wrap up. But I am so comforted by the patience of the camera crew who not only laughed at their jokes and rubbish antics but also played with the kids till no end as well.

We had a fun time filming and now, an even better time watching back all that's been put together!
