The Making of #mmlittle家 - LAVAVELLA Brass Knobs and Handles

I was looking high and low for suitable cabinet door handles. Part of my carpenter's job was to install cabinet handles too. When I told him I'd like it in matte gold, his jaw dropped *haha* You would think with decades of experience, he would know best where to find these edgy knobs and handles. But his response was, "Rectangle handles are mostly stainless steel finish." I don't blame him. After scouring the web for what seems like forever, I couldn't find what I want in Singapore too.

There are a whole lot of variety in America, in China, everywhere but Singapore. Unfortunately, I am not a fan of shipping in stuff from overseas. I want to get down to touching and seeing the product I buy! Not wait in excitement to be disappointed when the colour of the product on the computer screen doesn't match the real thing. Or if there's a defect, how long more am I going to wait for the. possibility of a refund or exchange? I like talking to someone here, now and in person.

I FINALLY found LavaVella, a Singapore-based creative selling handcrafted home hardwares. I was gleefully jumping with joy when I finally found a shop selling every knob and handle that made my heart skipped a beat!

They do not sell any products online so do head into their cozy little shophouse in the hippest part of the Joo Chiat enclave!

You are free to cash and carry if they have enough stock of what you need. But if they don't, production takes a minimum of 15 days and can go up to 6 weeks! So you really ought to plan early with your designs. Get your knobs and handles settled even before you start renovation so that the delivery would coincide with installation. If you start sourcing for it late like me, no big worries too. It is so easy to install - just a screw in - and you'll be on your way to opening cabinet doors with beautiful handles!

LavaVella is a family run business that supplies home hardware to commercial and residential spaces.  I met them! A young entrepreneurial family of three. It began when they had to furnish their own place with handles and knobs and they couldn't find what they need locally. They dwelled into deep research and decided to use the resources they have to create their our handles and knobs! Pieces that are custom designed in brass for their new home. We benefitted from them when they decided to start a business in Singapore for unique customised designs. 

The brass are made in their factory in Indonesia. It is handcrafted in house, then finished it off with different types of finishings we offer. There are currently five finishings to choose from: Antique Brass,  Gold / Matte Gold, Silver / Matte Silver, Black and Red Copper.

LavaVella provides a service especially to both designers and home owners who appreciate handcrafted or customized items that is uniquely theirs in various finishing available. Not only do they sell knobs, they are also an Interior Designing company! While you are there, you can tap on their expertise about size, design and feel with the owners on your visit to their store.

Meyer and I decided to give our new kitchen a unique look - handles for all cabinets and drawers below the counter top and knobs above the cooker hood. The decision was tough for the knobs because LavaVella carries a large variety of intricate designs for knobs! I spent an hour in their store and went home without making a decision. Thankfully, they were flexible enough to allow me to bring back some samples to test it out on our cabinet doors before we decided on the one the we both love.

Matte Gold. That's what we chose.
