We all know how Elly clothing designs are best known for its Chinese New Year collections of cheongsams and mandarin-collated shirts. They have grown to who they are today, owning a large footprint of the children clothier market in Singapore because of their dedication to bring forth beautiful clothes without compromising comfort. They opened their first retail store in Cluny Court in 2012 and stock one of the largest variety of shoe brands including Pediped, Saltwater sandals, Old Soles, Converse, Livie & Luca, Bobux, Natives, Méduse and Pom d'api. Phew! That's a lot!
From dressing the kids in Elly in hair bows, dresses and shirts, we have now turned to them for kicks! With so many charming brands under one roof, it makes shoe shopping very convenient.
To be brutally honest, we've decided to have the shoes reviewed only after a month's usage and not surprisingly, the children have no complains.

I am a mom who believes in Having Enough. One will only need a pair of sandals or slippers for wet grounds, a pair of dress shoes for that dinner occasion and a pair of sports shoes for the field. Although that's what I advocate, we have more than one pair of shoes for each occasion because Gifts and Hand-Me-Downs! Oh and my friends do have good tastes on shoes too.
But really, the negativities of wearing hand-me-downs are real:
- foot problems come from wearing the wrong footwear or ill-fitting shoes
- used shoes have already been moulded to the foot and wearing hand-me-downs can affect the shape of the child's foot
- there could be residual verruca virus or fungal nail infection in old shoes
Yet, we normally accept used shoes because the children grow up so quickly. Keeping costs down seemed like the right way to go. Now that they've outgrown most of their kicks, it is high time we start de-cluttering and re-think our order. When I walked the shoe section at Elly, it seems like some shoes could cater to the 2-in-1 requirement of Dressy and Dress-Down! A sandal that is perfect for the beach yet classy enough to go for Sunday brunch.
I decided to leave it to the kids on the choice of their shoes because nothing can go wrong with letting my them shop [without any form of influence] at Elly because every pair is a winning piece there!
FAYE'S CHOICE I
SALTWATER SURFER GOLD [S$85]
2 year old; size 6
Sandals that can withstand water and washing machine, looks dressy and come embellished with gold buckles sound like a dream!
Faye does need something versatile like that and this would have been her very first pair of Saltwaters. These sandals are made from specially treated natural leathers with an adjustable non-rusting brass buckle strap around the ankle. I had to bring it to the beach for a test-run.
We were met with a high tide that Sunday morning when we arrived for some water play at the beach. Walking along the shore letting the waves splash gently over our feet should be safe. Unfortunately, one big wave came from a moving ship and swept our shoes all away! While daddy's and my slippers were retrieved, Ewan's Crocs were lost forever. The only one who still had her sandals on her feet was Faye.
I was lamenting about how troublesome the buckles are. We had to help her put them on each time we went out but after that visit to the beach, I appreciated its design. Did the buckle rust from salty waters? Did the sole withstand the wetness? Oh yes!
I'm off to get a pair for myself after this!

CONVERSE CHUCK TAILOR ALL STAR [S$59.90]

I had always wanted Ewan to own a Converse. They look comfortable and snazzy but whenever we walked into a Converse store, I could never find a pair that I liked. Surprisingly, Elly stocks Converse! I never knew about it until I visited a month ago for this Shoe Rack Revamp project.
There were a whole range of Converse for girls and boys. I couldn't make up my mind which pair I liked and had to ask the daddy. Oh wait... it's supposed to be Ewan's choice right? So we steered him into that rack of shoes and got him to choose.
The biggest problem we saw to this shoe was it being "high-cut" and came with "laces". Awwwww.. seriously? It's going to take us forever to get him ready for an outing. Imagine untying shoe laces, forcing his feet in, handle some major tantrums about not wanting to wear his shoes because it's difficult, pacify and threaten him that he needed to wear them and then finally tying the shoe laces. PHEW! Some problems we just have to avoid.
Then Audrey, founder of Elly heard our concerns and delightfully shared, "Oh! They design children's shoes with velcro!"
Oh my! How clever! We can bring this pair home then! The most important aspect of any shoe is for easy wearing and with this heel pull tab, I was sold - on the spot.

LIVIE & LUCA MOLLY RED [S$115.00]
2 year old; size 6
For sure. When Faye saw this pair of Bunny shoes, I was certain she will not take it off. Elly stocked these in matte red and glossy black. I was leaning towards the black because I just liked it being unconventional. But I guess, with her being a little girl through and through, the red had to be it.
I loved the bold and whimsical modern touches to this pair. It is not merely a pair of shoes but one that created an emotional connection between Faye and Bunny! Every morning, she will look at what she's got on her shoe rack and decides which to wear. Bunny normally gets picked. It's no wonder! Her new shoes are now her friend!
When I found out that Livie & Luca has their shoes made in CPSIA-certified lead-free leather, I felt assured. What's the big deal you may ask? Children perspire a lot and their feet should be allowed to breathe. Synthetic materials do not breathe. Leather, on the other hand, allows for that.
With a velcro finishing, she can put on her shoes on her own. That gives me one less chore to do and for her to take ownership of her own well-being. Tuck the bunny ears in or out; wear it with socks or without. They look great in every occasion and the only thing I wish out from this pair of shoes is, that she will take a long time to outgrow.
EWAN'S CHOICE II
OLD SOLES CAM SHOES [S$94.00]

Ewan has been using this pair of shoes not only for daily wear, he is also working these soles out for his Wushu classes. It is a very versatile piece that is great for a regular day out with grandparents, to attend a Sunday Brunch at the Ritz or even for tennis.
Children need shoes with rounded toe box, flat rubber soles with non-slip grip, arch and heel support for body alignment and most importantly, flexibility. After a month of wearing this pair of Old Soles on a daily basis, I saw how seasoned the leather look. Seasoned in a good-looking way just like how men look better with age. It is wonderful that the leather they use are 100% natural and designs are on-trend.
This particular shoe comes in a variety of colours to complement any outfit. We were torn about which Cam shoes to get because they come in bright red, tan and white! Then we thought, "Mileage. Mileage. One that Faye Faye can wear too when Ewan grows out of it."
