GIVEAWAY AND DISCOUNT: The Right Size For Little Eyes with Tomato Glasses

I've shared about the importance of correcting Lazy Eyes and Astigmatism two years ago and here's sharing Ewan's astigmatism status today:- by making sure he reads and writes under good lighting with his glasses on, cutting his screen time usage on iPad and switching to television, stopping him from reading in moving car/bus/train, his astigmatism degree remained as it was in 2017 and no myopia had been developed in the years that went by.

In these two years, he broke a pair of glasses into two and had to change nose pads twice from wear and tear. The lenses had been changed thrice from scratches and I'm hoping I don't have to keep spending money changing parts anymore.

That's when we found out about Tomato Glasses which includes spare parts with each purchase of Tomato Glasses! With these add-ons, we can maintain wear and tear parts on our own with the user guide provided without sending the frames to a professional. Sharing an unboxing timeline of a Tomato Glasses casing, you will notice that each set comes with:
- lens cleaning cloth
- user guide
- additional temple tips
- additional nose pads x2
- screws and screwdriver
- head safety strap cord

There are great features about Tomato Glasses design. For one, the glass frames are made using non-toxic materials approved by the FDA. The frames are flexible, display excellent elasticity and do not break easily. They are also incredibly light: only 6 to 9g in weight. All frames from Tomato Glasses come with an attachable strap as a standard accessory. When attached, the strap prevents the glasses from slipping even with high-power lenses. They provide security when actively running and jumping, making Tomato Glasses great sports glasses.

But what I really impressed me when I first saw it were the adjustable temple lengths and nose pad heights!

Temple Lengths - There is a cushion on the tip that matches the complex curves of the ears and does not press on the ears. It is easy and simple to adjust the length of the temples.

Nose Pads - The nose pads can be attached to three points of the frame (five points on the baby range frames.). As every child’s face is unique, this feature allows the correct placement and height for each child.

With these features, I concluded that Tomato Glasses can grow with my child! When Ewan's nose bridge changes shape, I can adjust the nose pads to a different level to fit him comfortably. When his face shape changes with age, I can lengthen the temples by pulling the ear tips back and securing in place with the extra screws provided!

It is clear the creator of Tomato Glasses put in lots of effort in developing his brand to include such add-ons. He knows very well how quickly a child's pair of glasses can weather off. I read more about the story behind Tomato Glasses and found out that it was developed in Korea by a dad for his 24 month old son who had Hyperopia. The only correction was to wear thick convex lenses and to wear an eye patch to prevent a lazy eye known as Amblyopia. The limited choice of frames on the market at the time were heavy and constantly falling off his son's face. Compliance was poor as his son refused to wear them due to the discomfort and weight. His condition worsened. There was nothing available that could cater for a small child’s head with a flat bridge. This sparked the beginning of Tomato Glasses.

They have a good range of designs, colours and sizes from babies to teens. But we cannot simply purchase it off their website. There is a list of optical shops that carry Tomato Glasses and you will have to visit them for a proper eye check up plus fitting - Optical Shops in Singapore.

But I will always recommend our favourite optical shop Your Eye Guardian. They are now carrying Tomato Glasses too! We are so happy to know Benny, the owner of Your Eye Guardian, saw value in these frames too. We have been going to Benny's optical shop since 2017 [Read about our experience at his shop on our first visit and all his credentials as an optometrist]. To ensure you are given proper attention on your visit, do make an appointment before heading down.

SMS "LIANG MAY" to 9126 2829 when making appointment with Your Eye Guardian to claim your free paediatric eye check worth S$88 and receive a S$80 optical e-voucher!

To be honest, Ewan thinks this pair of Whites I chose was ugly. He wanted something understated - Black. However, he already has two black frames and I wanted to give him some kind of colour variety in his wardrobe. I decided to “act first, report later".

"I will not wear it no matter what mom.
It's so ugly. I will not wear it to school!"

"Ok son. We talk later. You can wear your regular black frames to school and these white one on special occasions." I quipped.

We waited a week to have its lens fitted and when we were there at our regular optical shop for collection, Ewan reminded me that he isn't going to wear it.

However, I left his glasses at home on purpose so that he can put these new pair on for the day. He grumbled when he looked at himself in the mirror and we didn't talk about it after we left Your Eye Guardian.

30 minutes later, he muttered from the back of the car....

"Mmmm these glasses are actually very comfortable"

His father and I were very surprised to hear that because he had never said anything like that before! It must have been a really good fit for him to say something like this. I will never know how comfortable it is because I cannot try it on. So Ewan's words are testimony.

Came Monday and I put his Tomato Glasses back in its casing. I wanted to give it a little test and placed his regular black frames on the table next to his breakfast. He who usually aren't aware of his surroundings, checked in with me, "Where are my new spectacles mom? I want to wear it to school."
