One of my favourite things to do is to give an old space a new lease of life. It is the kids' room this time [always the kids' room actually] and I thought, "How about a functional night light that does not take up space yet passes off as a decorative?"

Well then. It has got to be a hanging wall decor that emits light.  

As an Instagram addict, scrolling feed after feed five times a day, I find myself attracted to those hypnotic Sleepy Eyes wall decor hanging above baby cots and toddler beds. Well, who wouldn't? It was such a craze last year that every kids' online store that I knew were blasting tempting pictures in my face! By the time I decided to own one, Sleepy Eyes was sold out everywhere. Lo and behold, as if my prayers' been answered, Neon Project offered to customise a neon sign for Ewan and Faye's bedroom! Why of course I asked if they could design a Sleepy Eye neon sign for us.  It will go up above Faye's bed, not too high but low enough to be used as a reading light for bedtime stories before turning in.

Upon confirmation and payment, it will take about two to four weeks for the product to arrive and this will be dependent on design complexity. I was really excited when ours came! It looked beautiful! 

We do not like damaging our walls with holes. So we turn to 3M a lot when we need things hung. Thankfully with advanced technology, they have added more bearable weight to their wall adhesives which could hold up our neon sign safely. I was initially worried if this glass tube would give way and fall onto Faye some day, causing irreversible damage; but my worries were completely unfounded. 

Neon Project made sure that their products are made from PVC with high quality acrylic as backing. It is unbreakable unlike the regular neon glass tubes, energy-efficient and absolutely safe for a child's room. We've got a two and four year old with curious fingers. It would be hard for me to say, "Hey! Don't touch that!" because they will. It puts my heart at ease to find out that it produces relatively no heat at all. I will not get any burnt accidents from hanging up this decorative-neon-night-light. Yipee!

This wall decor comes with a remote control *uh huh talking about high-tech* that allows us to dim it, brighten it and even "blink" it! There are several modes on the controller for the children to decide how they want their eyes to blink flash - long, short, fast, slow. It reminds me of the functions that Christmas lights do for the trees! Oh this is just the Fun element for the kids which I appreciate. Ewan exclaimed, "I am so excited to go home and sleep!" Well, that's a relief because when he announces that he ain't going to take his afternoon naps sometimes, I get rather annoyed. So this pair of glow-in-the-dark Sleepy Eyes actually encourages sleep! Somehow?

Neon Project's signs are directly powered with a three-pin plug. To connect the remote control to our Sleepy Eyes, we added a wireless adapter [provided in the package] to the power cord. It is an easy one-step Plug-and-Play process.

Because it comes with a dimmer function, our Sleepy Eyes neon wall light can be used as a night light or a reading light. At 100% brightness, it can serve as the purpose of a room light on its own! I am not trying to deceive you here but there is a power cord. It is two meters long and encased in a clear coating. But where is it on the walls from my pictures? When I brightened the pictures with photo editing tools, the wire just got buried into the brightness. So please don't be disappointed when you hang your Neon sign up on the wall and find that wire staring starkly back at you. It is there. You cannot hide it from your naked eye but you can hide it if you want to create an Instagram-worthy picture.

How does it work?

1. Share your neon dreams by filling up a form here and attach images of what you have in mind [if any because if you don't, they will be happy to listen to your ideas for drafting]

2. Your initial design based on your concept will be created

3. If you are happy with the quote and design, a deposit of S$50 is required [which is refundable towards your purchase]

4. The final design can be revised up to three times

5. Full payment needs to be collected before sending your wall decor to be handmade

6. The processing time takes about two to four weeks
