Pay-It-Forward 2.0: Singapore Zoo by #FayeDiddleDoodle

This is our family's second Art Charity Project and we are proud to present a collaboration with Oh My Mats for Pay-It-Forward 2.0! When we launched our Local Food series of stationery sets and tote bags, Oh My Mats was drawn to our project. They approached us to offer a very fortunate Faye to the opportunity of designing her own reusable colouring dining mat and have it put up for sale! 

There are a lot of possible themes to draw on: Mermaids, Unicorns, Desserts - all her favourite things. We discussed and agreed on her biggest favourite which is Animals. To make it more specific, animals of Singapore Zoo. We didn't know if there would be copyright issues to use the word "Singapore Zoo" as the name of her project and had it cleared with Wildlife Reserves Singapore. They gave us their blessings and so here we are! Project went into the making immediately after!

Faye's art school, Da Little Arts School, came on board supporting Faye as well. So much love in that, thank you! We had Teacher Love [Teacher La La went into sudden labour that same week Faye was due to draw her Singapore Zoo] guide Faye into her doodles. 

Our six year old illustrator didn't want Ah Meng to be in the picture because she finds it ugly. Teacher Love persuaded her into it in because Ah Meng is our Zoo's icon! Faye said she wanted a Flamingo in her picture too even though Flamingoes are at Jurong Bird Park. No biggie! Let us do that. We are quite sure many little girls would love to have a Flamingo in there. 

Say Hello to Jubilee the Giraffe, Scooter the Penguin, Inuka the Polar Bear, Pedro the Sea Lion, Sipho the White Lion, Komali the Elephant, Ah Meng the Orang Utan and Keysa the Tiger. Because the kids befriends Animal Buddies at the zoo enjoying live cams, animal videos and fun activities, we got to learn about the names of the animals. Peanut is the name of their Capybara at River Safari!

SAYING NO TO PLASTIC

We are also going as green as we can for the benefit of our environment by choosing recycled paper box packaging and have our mats rolled in tissue instead of plastic for your delivery. Do remember to repurpose your cardboard boxes as Christmas packaging to "wrap" gifts for your children or friends or relatives!

HOW TO PURCHASE?

Oh My Mats saw how tedious it was for my family to pack every single purchase the last round and offered their website and purchasing system to facilitate Pay-It-Forward 2.0! They also have a team to help with the packing which will free us time on our side to work with you generous donors if you'd like to donate more to the cause. 

"Singapore Zoo" is available in Small 38cm x 24cm. There will only be 250 mats available for sale. 100% of sales from first 100 mats will be fully donated to Happy People Helping People. 50% of the sale from the next 150 mats will be donated and the rest be shared as profits. 

All production costs, sales costs like payment gateway fees, shipping fees, etc are generously borne by Oh My Mats.

WHY WE CHOOSE HAPPY PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE TO DONATE TO?

Happy People Helping People is a not-for-profit foundation run by a collective of like-minded happy people with an aim for helping others. Everything is transparent and all the contributions you make will ALL go to a good cause. Receipts are in each Happy Sunday albums.

They have been supporting cardboard collectors with their monthly meals and diapers, bringing them out for excursions and seeking help from the community to help with volunteerism or raising funds for devices such as a Rollator to aid elderlies with walking difficulties. 

This Christmas, with this project, we will be supporting them to bring relief and comfort to the tummies of these elderlies, lessening their burdens as we celebrate the coming of a new year.

Secondmeal issues QR Code Cards to beneficiaries to claim their meal at participating stalls. When we buy a meal, we will be given a uniquely generated URL where we can track the date and the time our meals are being claimed by a beneficiary so that we know where our contributions go directly to. I will be sharing holding that one URL and will update you on my social media platforms when they are being claimed!

ABOUT OH MY MATS?

The children and I had coloured in many other brands of reusable mats previously and the colouring experiences are somewhat different. I'd love to share upfront what it is like for Oh My Mats mats. They colour in with a wet look and when you colour over it again, hoping to cover up all the white spaces, the colours get erased. 

The reason for this is because Oh My Mats designed their mats for dining and children safe markers and silicon mats are used to prevent poisoning. Our children can eat from this mats, they can make cookies from this mat and the colours are easily removed with wet wipes.
