Christmas Craft: A Christmas Artwork
Day 8 on the Christmas Advent Calendar was also a craft day. The children love to play with paint and with a little help from google, ideas for a Christmas artwork to adorn our art and craft wall came popping up. There were so many awesome creations that I almost wanted to work on every single artwork with them! However, only one will win that spot for this advent activity. Last year, we made finger-printing reindeers and Christmas lights on cards. This year, I decided on foot and hand printing instead. It shall claim a spot on our dining wall for the holiday season. Spot it?
That squishy squashy wet and cold sensation as they pushed their little feet and hands into the paint tickled them much. I think if I left them be, I'd have two kiddos covered with paint as they hand-stamp their own bodies and faces. Not to mention the possibility of a stained sofa! Oh that is why it is very important to purchase washable paint. Crayola is a wonderful mix of scientific creation. I had a very easy time washing paint off their feet and hands.
Our Materials:
- a drawing board paper
- a marker
- a marker
- coloured paints
- crayons
Such simple materials that every household with children will have. You can get down to working on this artwork almost immediately! These personalised reindeers and Christmas trees make very meaningful Christmas cards as well as the whole family gets involved in the making.
I used Ewan's hand and foot for the large Christmas tree and orange reindeer on the left-side of the paper while Faye's baby hand and foot made up those on the right. Leave them to dry before mommy or daddy add in the details with a trusty marker and colour them lights and baubles in with crayons.
How to create Ewan's large Christmas tree? Imprint three hands next to each other as the base, followed by two hands right above it and finally one hand imprint on the top. Wa-la! Simple as Do Re Mi! Do not forget to give the tree a brown stump at the bottom which can be easily created with a crayon!
I realised I should have printed Faye's little foot upside down instead after filling in my drawings (five little toes at the bottom instead of the top). Those little toes will look like little presents under the tree and besides, a tree usually has a broader base. The ball of our foot is broader than our heel and will depict a more realistic tree. Try it!
