Our Friso Experience More Together Moment I

Like most families, our weekdays are determined by routines and responsibilities - daddy goes to work, sonny goes to school, baby goes about doing her baby stuff and mommy tries her best to keep the home intact. The only time we will round up again as a family unit is over dinner when daddy comes home. Then again, it is short-lived because there are bed times to adhere to. This Monday-to-Friday drill gives the children a lot to look forward to every weekend because we make sure everyone has a jolly good time by then.

Children are easily satisfied but no, it isn't in that spanking new bicycle or costly trip to Disneyland that gives them the highest sense of delight. It is our presence and participation that can bring out those sparkles from their eyes. We just have to remember that doing little things with them is really good enough. It is the experience that counts. This experience is the best teacher for any child because by doing things together, everything becomes more meaningful.

Our weekends are always busy from playing football to swimming, frolicking in the park to attending musicals. Yet, the simplest joy of it all is spent singing and laughing on the road to nowhere. #FrisoMoment

We learn a lot in our car [joy]rides and since they are our main mode of transportation, we try to make the best out of it. Ewan learnt about his Lefts and Rights, the dangers and safety rules in driving and the importance of buckling up. While he is now proficient with "Red Light STOP, Green Light GO and Amber Light SLOW DOWN",  we picked up a lot of new songs from him too! He would blurt out a new poem or song he learnt from school and the car will be filled with silly laughters when we could not decipher certain words from his hazy baby pronunciations. After a few practices, we rock our drive with songs after songs after songs which sends him into a laughing euphoria. I don't know why but his laughters are magically contagious and hearing us singing HIS songs makes him super proud of himself.

Oh but wait! Baby Faye does not like to be strapped into her car seat. She used to cry and struggle a lot. I sure am glad things have changed this year for her. She has become more accepting of car rides. Not always but at least she is crying a lot lesser now and attempts to join in our conversation with her babbles. Her favourite car song has got to be Les Miserables' On My Own. It miraculously calms her down and so, we have all become fans of Les Miserables! Oh what Andrew Llyod Weber does to his listeners - mesmerises even the youngest audiences on road trips.

The children are naturally fascinated by the driver's seat. They seem to know that it is out of bounds for them so on special days when they get treated with the opportunity to touch the steering wheel, they will squeal in excitement. Oh yes, even the baby girl. Experts have been encouraging role-playing as part of child development haven't they? It increases language development, self-esteem and imagination. Who would have thought a simple activity such as a drive on the road could be such fun and educational for the family.

Note: Car is always stationary and car key removed.

We owned this beautifully restored vintage beetle in 2009 but had to give her up halfway through my pregnancy with Faye. While Meyer had his fast car, I found this lovebug perfect for me. We would take her out for leisurely drives on weekends and enjoy all the thumbs up we received on the road. Alas, it became impractical after the children came along where child seats are needed because... vintages do not have Isofix functions! I sold her to one of the brothers who owned Androids in Boots and this was one very momentous experience, reuniting with the car as a family. It must be fate that brought us together because these amazing photographs are shot by none other than Wilson himself, the owner of this bug.

They are a pair of brothers who believe in capturing the genuine connection between people. Young as they are, the AndroidsinBoots team is bursting at the seams with creativity, ever-ready for adventures. They have walked out of their comfort zone (weddings) and threaded into photographing us as a family. We are honoured and uber pleased with the results. Who wouldn't?
