Rosa Malacca

Rosa is a designer lifestyle hotel. I found it by chance while googling for hotels in Malacca. Loyalty and familiarity had us checking into The Majestic Malacca whenever we returned. This time though, with the kids a lot older [and taking up more space], we decided to explore the possibility of other hotels in Malacca with bigger rooms.

A checklist of sorts, these posters in our Family Suite served as a reminder of all the places we should visit while in Malacca.

Rosa Malacca is a gem of a place. I love the architecture, the vibes it exudes, the inspiration every corner brings and the spirit of adventure in its cushion covers! Charming.

Inspired by rustic industrial loft design focused on utilizing raw materials, clay bricks and cement rendering, recycle aged woods, exposed support beams, visible ductwork and pipes without compromising the nature’s elements, the 60 guest rooms offer the perfect space for self-expression within the cool relaxing loft design.

LOCATION
Not located in the heart of town, I wondered if it would be inconvenient for us to travel to and fro Jonker Walk every day. I wondered if there were any shopping malls or makan places [places to eat] right next to Rosa.  I didn't bother researching any further because the husband said, "It's okay. That's not important. We've got a car."

I showed him the map and he nodded in approval of its location.

So are there any malls or hawkers in the vicinity of Rosa?

No!

Be prepared to drive out or just partake your meals in the hotel why not?

By the way, Grab is very cheap in Malacca. To save you parking fees and fines and the hassle of looking for a lot, I would highly recommend Grabbing your way around.

LOUNGE, RECEPTION AND PARKING
Driving into the hotel, we were pleasantly greeted by ample parking space. Of which, most of them were Singapore cars. Malaysia was experiencing heavy rains during the period we visited and news of flood had residents evacuated from their homes. We were worried about underground parking but heaved a sigh of relief to find that the parking lots are at ground level. Well-maintained with high security surveillance.

While many hotels have their guests walk straight into the Reception, we walked right into a cosy lounge. A space for guests to, as suggested, lounge! Lounge while waiting for your ride to arrive, lounge with a book in hand, lounge for the sake of lounging just to relax. Our first impression was, "Wow! So rustic! So beautiful."

We went up to the Reception desk at first floor [ground is level one; first floor is level two] for registration. Expecting nothing less than what just welcomed us at the lounge. I loved what I saw as the lift door opened. A floral centrepiece to grace the centre of the room and staff welcoming us behind their coutique-inspired counters.

FAMILY PREMIER ROOM
Our family was quickly whisked up to our Family Premier Room. A 40sqm room that housed two king-sized beds. It was night when we arrived and the curtains were drawn for turn-down. My husband and son weren't impressed by the room at all. To them, it felt dark and lonely. A little claustrophobic to add to that.

I, on the other hand, found the room practical enough for our family of four! At a rate of S$120 nett per night for this room with ample space and two King beds, I had no complains. We decided to take a look at their Family Suite before making a decision to stay or leave. Leave for a bigger room I mean, not leave Rosa.

FAMILY SUITE
We walked into the Family Suite and the children went, "Ahhhhh! We love this! Can we stay here instead?" That's all they needed to say to have daddy going down to the reception to top up the difference. At S$150 nett per night, it wasn't that much to add for a few nights of comfort and happiness. The space, although just 8sqm more than the Family Premier Room, felt a lot airier. This is their most expensive room and they allow a maximum of six guests per suite!

Comparing to our usual stay at The Majestic Malacca, it was better valued in terms of space and price. The stay experience is definitely different - one modern and one traditional - but now that the children are older and need more space in bed, it's best we find a hotel that can house two Queens or Kings.

Bathtub?

No tub.

FACILITIES
No swimming pool. Just a Gym at the roof top.

SERVICE
The service was non-intrusive. We enjoyed the space and our stay without feeling as though we are being stalked by over-enthusiastic staff. They were polite when they need to and reacted professionally to whatever requests we had.

As an ex-hotelier, I cannot see pass certain minute details that weren't picked up by Housekeeping though. Other than that one glass that hasn't been washed our entire stay and a little hole in my duvet sheet, they've straighten up the suite clean and fresh.
