GIVEAWAY: A Peter Rabbit Tale by SRT's The Little Company
EDIT 04.03.17: Congratulations Theresa Tay! You have won yourself tickets to A Peter Rabbit Tale!
Peter Rabbit is a famous rabbit. When I think of him, Paddington Bear comes to mind as well. Oh it is an easy association because they are both English, anthropomorphic and are classic characters that have delighted children for decades! Yet, I have never read a single story of either characters in storybooks. But I found an e-book [which I would like to share] while writing this and had the most enjoyable read.
Watching the musical this morning brought the whole family into the world of Peter Rabbit and we brought home an important message:
Cherish Your Loved Ones
Oh look at those cute bunny bobs I pinned on Ewan and Faye! They sure dressed the part for this morning's musical! Today's play gave the story a new lease of life - a very clear message about how our home is the safest place on Earth. Instead of Peter running back immediately after his misadventure into Mr McGregor's garden [as told in the original storybook], he ran away into the big unknown world. He was afraid to hear what his mother might say after he stole lettuces, french beans and radishes from the garden; and so he ran away.
Faye started sobbing when Peter Rabbit decided not to go home and Ewan was clearly upset about that decision. While Faye was frightened about what Peter might face in the woods, Ewan was angry. Even at such a young age of four and two, they knew that running away from home is a bad decision. I think they were afraid of what might happen to Peter Rabbit should he fall in the hands of a big bad wolf! They say they cannot bear to watch the whole play again.

He explored new places and struggled to live with other animals, from feisty squirrels to living with mice. Peter realised all he wanted was to be back in the arms of his mother; that his goody two-shoes twin sisters aren't that hard to deal with after all.
My personal favourite was the HEDGEHOG! Writing this and thinking back on the scene just made me smile again. She was punky, feisty, a rocker and an absolute darling. Mrs Tiggy-Winkle [her name] was also the pivoting point to Peter Rabbit's decision to go home. I applaud her wise words and especially her rowdy disposition which made her song stood out!
Played by Siti Maznah, who also acted as Mother Rabbit, Mr McGregor, Owl, and Milly Mouse, she blew me off my seat. I was reading her cast bio in the programme sheet when this caught my eye: "Her theatre credit include Dinner in Wonderland (Andsoforth)...". OH MY! Was she the Chesire Cat that we met when we went for our Tea Time in Wonderland event earlier last week? This is her first time working with SRT and I look forward to seeing her more often on stage for sure.
I have only compliments to give to the casts of A Peter Rabbit Tale. To think they have to change into different characters [at least three] and play them so well impresses me. As we watched, we pointed out, "Hey! That's one of the pigs in Three Little Pigs!" Hello Benedict Hew!

Just one little complain from Faye. She asked, "Where's the Rabbit?" halfway into the show. Well, they weren't dressed in full animal costumes and although I could make out the Rabbits, Mice and Squirrels, we weren't really sure if the Owl was a Bat or the Hedgehog was a Porcupine. Oh but the number of animals that were presented in this musical was perfect! I think there were seven different animals - rabbits, cat, owl, mice, squirrels, hedgehog and frog! The kids were delighted to see a Frog made a star appearance too towards the end.
The music! It's got a little bit of jazz and a lot of fun - the way we like it!
Life really isn't that bad at home. I think every mom in the theatre was mighty pleased with the moral that the children brought home with them after this musical. I heard many parents asking their children if staying home was a better decision at the end of the day. This is one of the clearest moral to any story The Little Company has ever told.
This is also the very first kids' musical that I shed tears for; when Peter Rabbit hugged his family upon his return. I teared when I imagined this same scene might be a re-run of my own life, with one kid [or both] running away to explore the world. When they come back home after a full circle, I will be there to hug them tight and welcome them home.
