[DISCOUNT CODE] MyFirst Fone - A Watch, A Phone, A Camera, A Music Player, A GPS Tracker

Dear Faye and Ewan,

I was 16 years old when my mommy and daddy first bought me my first mobile phone. It was not a Smart Phone. Meaning, it cannot be connected to the Internet nor can it take photographs. It has only a call and text function with no colours on screen whatsoever. I treasured it a lot! Before that, the world could not even conceive the notion of mobile phones.

You see, we grew up with landlines. A landline is a fixed telephone line stuck to the wall socket which cannot be brought around. The receiver has a cord connected to the phone. As humans become smarter, they developed handheld landline telephones for the home, then mobile phones and suddenly, the birth of Smart Phones. All this within one generation - mine. Astounding break-through I tell you.

What you've got right now is a marriage of Simple and Smart

MyFirst Fone is a Watch, a Phone, a Camera, a Music Player and a GPS Tracker.

I love the colour choices you've made for your first Watch Phone. They represent you both to the T! The only reason I agreed to getting you a MyFirst Fone each is because it's about time you both started taking baby steps to independence. The other day you went for your first solo bicycle ride Ewan, and the only reason we allowed you to was because mama could "accompany you" while talking to you on your watch to keep you tracked. It was liberating for you and that was your first taste of freedom.

SIMPLE: You are both only in Primary One and Primary Three. It is out of my parenting league to give you a full functioning Smart Phone. In my traditional views, if you need to call me, look for a pay phone. 10 cents is all you need. Unfortunately, COVID-19 happened and your school had the pay phones barred to reduce common usage. When MyFirst Fone came along, I fell in love with its simplicity. It can be controlled by me [remotely on my mobile phone app] to be Smart or Simple! During school hours, I am able to set it to Class Mode and turn it into a watch without the call, text, music player, camera functions BUT still keeping the SOS and GPS tracking role for me to ensure your safety. Most importantly, no gaming option and Internet access like a smart phone. Brownie points to curb addiction with this device!

SMART: To be able to switch from a basic watch to a phone is really smart! When it is switched to its Smart function, you are able to call, text and video call us whenever you need to reach us.

Call, Text and Video Call. I love it that MyFirst Fone allows mommy and daddy to dictate the people you can contact. We inputted a safe contact list for your individual watch phones of whom you can communicate with [parents and grandparents only]. So no, you are not able to communicate with Tom, Dick and Harry if they are not in your list! They are not able to call you even if they've got your number and will be directed to a No User tone. This is a privacy and safety feature I really appreciate. At this moment, the purpose of giving you your first MyFirst Fone is to allow us to reach you [and vice versa] easily whenever you are not around us.

Camera. It is cute to see a 2-megapixal camera can satisfy both your curiosity of having your own personal camera. I noticed you guys like to take selfies and of Gypsie!

Music Player. You are using the R1. R1 comes with an MP3 player and built-in loudspeaker that provides up to 10 hours playback time [akin to 500 songs] which is great for music or listening to audiobooks. When you turn the default music the phone provided, I can feel your joy on your wrist as you dance to it!

GPS Tracker. Of course I want to know your whereabouts so that I can keep you safe! MyFirst Fone allows daddy and I to see where you are be refreshing our app. We can set an auto-location-refresh in 1, 5, 10, 30 or 60 minute intervals *claps claps* We can even set a boundary alert to keep you within a building or radius at a certain day and time. For example, you guys are supposed to be no where else but school from Monday to Friday 7.30am to 1.30pm. If you are out of our designated range, mommy and daddy will be alerted immediately!

SOS Button. This button is so important and we spent a good amount of time talking about this SOS feature. It can send distress signals to us whenever you are in trouble. Once activated, daddy and mommy will receive an emergency location alert with a 30s live recording of surrounding sounds. This is a very clever feature and definitely a Need!

I wonder how's it going to be like in YOUR future with phone technology. I imagine holograms taking over live video calls and more!

What I love:

- both iOS and Android compatible

- unlimited data and voice calls

- how I can be in contact with Ewan and Faye when they are away from me

- the clever way it can toggle between a basic watch and a smart watch

- that there are no games to play unlike a smartphone

- the security feature of who can contact my children and who they can communicate with

- the Removal Detect feature sends an alarm to parents when the smartwatch is taken off the kid's wrist

- the ability to activate the Shutdown Forbidden feature to disallow my children to turn off their watches [no possibility of playing truant because I can "see" them]

- no matter if the smartwatch is in its full functioning mode or class mode, the SOS button to call us for emergency still works

What I do not like:

- the charging dock is quite sensitive and can easily lose its contact

- sometimes the battery runs out too quickly even though usage is low

- where do we get mp3 files nowadays? Music today are being streamed!

- the GPS location feature takes a little too long to refresh even though it does its job. I would prefer it to be more accurate and more instant.
