Your Father's Take on Life
Count your blessings you've got your dad as dad.
He does a lot of thinking and he thought about this just last night. About what LIFE is and how we should live as humans on this short short time on Earth.
Daddy shared with me how the entirety of our Life resembles a Roller Coaster and I knew after hearing his take, I had to pen this down for you both.
You get on with nothing
[you are born with nothing]
You experience an exhilarating ride
[you live life]
You get off with nothing
[you leave this world with nothing]
Just like a roller coaster, we board with nothing in our pockets. We leave our phones, glasses and bags [sometimes even slippers] on the side before climbing into our seats. We are mostly nervous and excited at the same time as we get buckled into our safety harnesses. Then we experience the ride of a lifetime, screaming through the downs and holding our breaths through the ups.
We smile.
We laugh.
We cry.
We regret.
We fear.
At the end of it, we get off with nothing but an experience that will shape us, empower us and mature us. An experience that will also die with us when the time comes.
In the process, which is this Life we are riding on, what should we do with it?
Force you to study hard because it's important you at least get a better shot in life with a good job if you are an A student and hung out with "the right crowd"? But what if at the end of slogging 15 years as a student to get to where we think it's best for you in our own terms, you totally missed living your childhood which you only get once in your life?
Ensure you be the greatest of everything you set out to be because the greatest gets an edge in Life. However, what if that depletes you and through all the training, you are not one bit happy? Are we robbing your happiness from you just because we think we know what's best for you and your future?
In short, he wants you to just enjoy it. Enjoy this Life you are blessed with and be happy playing that drum, painting on that canvas or running that race.
That said, we have to also always put our best foot forward for everything we set out to do.
You must never forget that Your Life is only but an experience of failures and accomplishments that belong only to you. Daddy and I will be here to brace those failures with you and we will be here to celebrate your wins. You wouldn't know what success tastes like until you have been defeated. So welcome them both and know how to stand up when you fall.
We leave this world with nothing but of course we can always leave behind a legacy. A legacy small enough just for our immediate family or one so big, it impacts the World. But this legacy is forged by you and your desire to make whatever kind of impact you want.
You know kids? Just keep those two feet of yours grounded and enjoy this ride of a lifetime. It's a one-way ticket and you only have on token in your pocket. It isn't something you can do it again. Make the best out of it.
And we will always remind ourselves to not rob your happiness away from you.
