Spartan Warrior Faye Bagged Away A Trifecta Medal

Media Invite

New in 2018, Spartan Kids can now earn their very own Trifecta medal by completing three races of any kind within a calendar year! This is FAYE'S RACE! Today she claimed her Trifecta Medal at 4 years of age in Malaysia!

We drove to Malaysia just for this and although it sounds kind of hard core, we thought it would be a good excuse to also make it a weekend trip out of Singapore to our neighbour’s. It was held at Sireh Park, Iskandar Puteri, which is just seven minutes drive from Legoland Malaysia. We made it a Legoland - Spartan - Dinosaur Kingdom weekend trip that got the kids extremely high from fun and parents, extremely depleted. Oh but I get fuelled from happy little faces.

Back to Spartan Malaysia, the obstacles were easier than Singapore’s in my opinion but this is a real test of endurance. Children were required to race uphill instead of flat ground. That must be the reason why they made the obstacles more doable. The uphill climb was a killer in itself! There were nine obstacles in that 900m race: A Wall, Balance Beam, O.U.T, Caterpillar Crawl, Tunnels, Shockcord, Spear Threw and Hercules Hoist. All of which Faye could easily handle except for the O and T in O.U.T which she needed a little boost at.

The course was muddy and our Spartan Princess doesn’t like mud. Thankfully, she had no complains and pushed forward from obstacle to obstacle.

However, three quarter through the race, she panted, "No I cannot."

Mommy shouted back, "YES YOU CAN!"

I followed her this time because it is her Trifecta run and I wanted to personally encourage her towards the finishing line. She bullies daddy and if she stopped at her tracks with her hands on hip going, “I’m done”, daddy might just let her be done *hahah*

She screamed, "My legs are breaking! I want to give up! I want to turn back now!"

I ran alongside her, encouraged her and gave her so much assurance, "If you turn back, you've gotta run further than if you move forward! Don't give up! You can do it! Aroo Faye! You Can Do This!”

"NO I CANNOT!" she insisted as she ran.

"YES YOU CAN! I'm running with you! Yes you can so do it! Let's go! We are reaching the finishing line!" and I RAN holding her doubtful hand and giving her legs an extra push with my cheers.

Guess what! She did it. Faye finished the 900m race in Sireh Park Malaysia! There are so many times in life we want to give up on so many things because the uphill climb was [is] too difficult. All we need is a mental "YES I CAN!" and there we will find ourselves at the finishing line with a rainbow medal like I told my daughter. I told her the Trifecta Medal is a Rainbow Medal. At her age, she can relate more to a "Rainbow" rather than the word “Trifecta" which doesn’t mean quite a thing.

A Spartan’s True Strength Is The Warrior Next To Him!

Can I shamelessly say I am her warrior?

As she was given her winning medal at the finishing line, her first words were, “This is not a rainbow medal.” Grumpy little one! We walked over to the Spartan Kids tent, showed them proof of her other two race medals and there, they presented her with her Trifecta Medal! An honour of her perseverance which got her brother extremely jealous.

He swore he will strive for his very own Trifecta Medal in 2019 and cannot wait to participate in the upcoming Stadion Spartan Kids at Singapore Sports Hub! Ewan tried persuading Faye, “Can you don’t run the next race? You have more medals than me already! Let me catch up to you first!”

Our Spartan Princess in pink flower shades responded, “No. I want to run the next race too.”

Can you imagine the weight over her neck with so many medals and all the cling cling clang clangs as she walked out of Sireh Park? Onlookers went, “Woah!” and I was proud as punch of her even though she complained till no end during the race.

Holding a chocolate milk in one hand and four medals around her neck, she complained, “What! After running so much, I still need to walk?”

Daddy laughed at that sight and offered to put her on a throne. The throne is that of his arms - he carried his four year old back to the car. His version of a supportive Spartan Dad in his very own race.

How was the experience at Spartan Malaysia?

I must say we are probably too pampered in Singapore with fringe activities that include a free-flow Milo truck, archery play, mass warm-up sessions, tattoos, games, food and an abundance of very enthusiastic volunteers who cheered on [and get all dirty with] the children as if they were their own!

It was a tad quiet at Spartan Malaysia’s Festival Village except for activities at the GoPro booth where families can join in for Squat Hold and Duck Walk challenges. But hey, we also recognise the turn-out for Malaysia Spartan Kids aren’t as big as what we have in Singapore. The scale of fringe activities is just nice for the crowd without over catering unnecessarily.

At your next Spartan Race, don’t forget to chalk your name on the board!
