Before we had children, we owned a spa package and treated ourselves to massages and facials on a regular basis. The life after Ewan and Faye became very different. We have never gone to a spa as a couple ever since! Even on holidays, we would take turns to watch the children while the other went for a well-deserved massage.
Then we came to know about The Outcall Spa! It provides a unique kind of service which brings the spa to you wherever you are. They came to us two Thursdays ago after the kids slept at 2300 hours. I was initially worried about the noise they would make setting up the massage beds but surprisingly, all was rather quiet.
The masseuses were professional and unobtrusive. They knew we had sleeping children and spoke very softly. The set up and tear down of the massage beds were also done with finesse. It was a very interesting sight to watch because I wouldn't have believed how a massage bed can be folded in two to fit into a customised cover with wheels! Talking about efficiency and convenience!

We had our couple Swedish Massages in the heart of our living room and it was beautiful. There, we enjoyed 90 minutes worth of tranquility pampered with the sound of water and spa music from their portable player. It is perfect music to lull us into a state of relaxation and I appreciated that subtle touch of service.
There are four type of couple massages to choose from:
1. Stress Begone - Swedish Massage: This soothing therapy is designed for working adults who have their hands full keeping pace with careers, education, homes, children and more. Using long, soothing strokes typical of Swedish Massage, the masseuse will ever so gently loosen tensed up muscles and help you find relief amidst the stiff joints
2. Knots Away - Deep Tissue: Going deep into those knots that have been keeping you up at night with our personalized variation of the Deep Tissue Massage. They will help you leave that stress-induced tension outside the bedroom door as the masseuse deliver a perfectly choreographed intensive muscle massage that will leave you in a state of complete bliss.
3. Traditional Chinese Massage - Tui Na: Pronounced “twee nah”, this traditional Chinese massage style is famous for its health benefits. Regain your health as you remove blockages and the build-up of toxins in your body with techniques based on the same principles as acupuncture, except that the hands and fingers are used instead of needles. Let our fully certified therapists carefully remove the blockages in your system and help you regain a healthful flow in your qi.
4. Gift of Life - Pre-natal: This is designed to ease all back-pains and aches faced by heavily pregnant mommies. The sessions go up to 90mins at a time. Prenatal massage is suitable for mummies gestation period falls between week 20 to week 36. However, please consult your physician prior to any massage session
I decided on the Swedish Massage with The Outcall Spa because my last massage was a very painful experience at another spa. I recalled how I was howling in there from the pain of the Deep Relief Massage I opted for. I didn't want a painful experience this time and besides, I can't be waking the kids up with my Ouch Ouch Ouches.
Unfortunately, I think I prefer the aftermath of a Tui Na or Deep Tissue massage although the massage experience can be miserable as they remove the blockages and knots in my system. To each their own! So do find a massage that suits you best. I am intending to book them in for a traditional Chinese massage the next time! Just for myself when my husband next leaves for a business trip. A solo-parenting treat after the kids go to bed. I am sure it'll be much needed by then.

Ginger root has anti-inflammatory qualities thus drinking ginger tea can have relieving effect on inflamed joint and tired muscles. However, remember not to drink alcohol or smoke after getting a massage because massage increases circulation and alcohol and nicotine have a stronger effect after a session. It can lead to numbed senses, amplified drunkenness and intensified hangovers.
Therefore, the bottle of French Bordeaux red wine that comes with the 120-minute Valentine's Day package should be shelved for another day and not right after the session itself. This is one unique way to treat your better half to a sensual and relaxing evening in celebration of Valentine's. Especially for you couples who can hardly tear away from your little ones.

My only gripe about a late night massage was, we couldn't sleep after it all! We slept during the massage and was wide awake by the time we were done with ginger tea at 0100 hours.
