GIVEAWAY: of Helmets and Excavators at the Diggersite

EDIT 22.08.16: Congratulations Sophia Hoe and Tan Bee Chin Joyce! You have won yourselves a Membership Card each to Diggersite!

August 2016
JCUBE, JURONG EAST
I concluded in my East Coast Raintree Cove review with, "It isn't exactly very cheap but it is worth that one visit. Like Disneyland if you get what I mean. You've got to give it a try at least once! Whether you will return again, that depends on how crazy a digger fan your kid is."

Looks like I've got myself a digger fan for a kid! Instead of asking for a stopover to the well-reputed playground at Marine Cove whenever we drove past East Coast Park,  he would exclaim, "Diggersite!" instead.

So.

We decided to give the indoor Diggersite in the west a visit. I have never been to JCube Shopping Mall and on arrival, I was surprised to find level 3 of the mall filled with so much fun! To be honest, Ewan got drawn to the Ice-Skating Ring before he laid eyes on Diggersite. That he got to wait till he is five years of age. For now, let us work at the construction site!

First impression of this outlet? Humble.

There are four diggers in total - one sand excavator, one sand clawer and two ball pit clawer. Whereas the site at East Coast prides itself with seven diggers, an authentic construction site atmosphere and a larger compound of outdoor and indoor play. Diggersite at JCube pales in comparison in that aspect.

The biggest advantage point for this Diggersite at JCube is its location. Situated next to Jurong East MRT Station, it brings junior diggers [and adults who didn't fulfil their dream jobs!] of the west  to its site rather easily.

There are technically two stations at JCube's Diggersite: (1) Sand and (2) Balls.

At the Sand Pit, there are two diggers for two different jobs. The first one is a regular excavator which allows you to scoop, turn and drop sand into buckets. The other is fixated with a claw where you are required to play a quick game at log-bowling. Pick a log up with the claw, release it on a wooden ramp and make a strike out of the three pins [plastic bottles filled with sand] at the bottom of the ramp! Fun much! Though frustration can get the better of you if you tend to be the impatient type.

At the Balls station, you play a game of clawing large-sized balls and dropping them into plastic containers. We picked five large balls plus a helmet in total! We as in Faye and I because she needed help of course. Ewan, on the other hand, was controlling the diggers on his own with verbal instructions from the site managers.

Each game play runs on one token and lasts for five minutes. I personally feel that the duration is just right. It can get a little draggy if it is too long and three minutes game play is definitely too short to learn the tricks to manoeuvring.

We will be back but to East Coast the next time. It still feels a lot more realistic to be at a construction site in the outdoors with staff dressed in their Danger Keep Out T-Shirts and Good Morning towels.

March 2016
EAST COAST RAINTREE COVE
Diggersite's been opened for only a month and it has become the talk of town! I tried looking for a website but they do not own one. Well, they didn't have to because their Facebook page is just as informative. With 4000 followers in 30 days since opening, it goes to show how powerful a marketing tool word of mouth is.

We heard it gets rather crowded on weekends and weekdays are a better bet. Yet, we didn't want daddy to miss this out so Saturday morning it had to be. The queue to the digger rides weren't long  at opening hours [1000 hours] because each kid has a limit of five minutes and there are six excavators in total, spread amongst three stations.

Before we went on with our digging adventures, we chose our helmets and donned on our safety vests. There are Caterpillar die cast scale models and Diggersite signature t-shirts on sale in the shop as well! Ewan put on the children's t-shirt and he fitted into a Size S perfectly. It costs S$18 and the quality's not shabby at all! I especially liked the adults' "Danger Keep Out" tees. However, I know if I bought it for the husband, he would probably wear it to sleep.

Each mini excavator is coin-operated just like the kiddy rides you see at shopping malls. How interesting isn't it? Once the designated five-minute ride is up, its 'engine' will stop. You can choose to continue your ride with another coin, or head to the next station. We bought a small package of three coins at S$18 [each coin entitles you to one play]. If you choose to purchase the coins individually, they cost S$7 per play.

Diggersite is constantly upgrading to serve us better. Just last weekend, they modified the site to provide shades for diggers. Great initiative on their part because it can get too hot for young children playing under the scorching sun! I love the new site! Covered, cool and very yellow.

There are three stations at Diggersite: (1) Sand, (2) Pins and (3) Balls.

Patrons get to manoeuvre three diggers at the Sand Pit concurrently. They scoop, turn and drop sand into buckets. Even though Ewan requested for mom or dad to work the excavator with him, we encouraged him to do it himself with the help of an on-site digging operator. After a few tips and tricks, he could get on with play on his own.

At the Pins station, you play a game of ball and yellow-painted bottles that looked like bowling pins. I thought this was a lot of fun! There is only one excavator here holding on to a rope with a ball tied at the end of it. I sat Faye with me and we knocked five pins down rather quickly with a few quick swerves. We even got the staff who was helping us applauding our good work! Ladies power!

Indoors, where the air-conditioning is, you will find a colourful pit filled with Balls. Ewan, Faye and Daddy decided to do this together. Well, not exactly the best team players because the kids fought to hold onto the controls at one time. There are two diggers in here and they were modified to work as claws. Imagine the Claw Arcade Game where you pick out teddies with a stroke of good luck and some skill. Here, you pick balls! Well, Ewan picked up helmets instead. It reminded me of a fishing trip gone wrong - boots instead of fish! *haha*

It isn't exactly very cheap but it is worth that one visit. Like Disneyland if you get what I mean. You've got to give it a try at least once! Whether you will return again, that depends on how crazy a digger fan your kid is.

  1. The Diggersite looks so fun!! But when I saw the price of the tokens, my jaws dropped LOL. Do they have entrance fees apart from the tokens? I'm stalking their Facebook page, hopefully they have some special promo for cheaper tokens!

  3. I think this is a super cool idea. Noey loved diggers when he was younger and if this was available then, he'd go completely nuts for it. How neat that they have 3 stations. Can see how happy Ewan is!
