Household Chores: #PipperWithKids
Media Invite
We have been invited to give Pipper Standard products a try and I thought, "Why not?" It is about time my children are roped in to help with household chores especially when they are the main culprits of any stains on their shirts or dirt on the floor. I am a little tired of always cleaning after them but had been scooping up mess on my own because I didn't know how safe the cleaning products were. Truth be told, I also didn't want them to mess the mess further! Yet, I decided it was time for them to learn.
I am definitely not subjecting them to any accidental swipes of soap over their faces that may sting their eyes or cause skin allergies on their cheeks. So when I read that their products are naturally made from pineapples [Ewan's favourite!], have hypoallergenic certifications certified by Dermscan Asia and are free of known allergens according to U.S. FDA, I jumped on the bandwagon without a second thought.
We have been using household products that boasts "No Harmful Chemicals" for a decade now but haven't used something like Pipper Standard's range of products that boasts about their unique patented pineapple fermentation process which yields natural organic acids, natural enzymes, natural preservatives and biosurfactants that allow their product to clean as well as or better than chemical products. Most importantly, they are environmentally friendly and eco-sustainable, certified to biodegrade more than 90% in one month!
I brought the children to SEA Aquarium earlier this week and we learnt about ways to keep the ocean free from pollutants. What goes into the sea from our home drainage that cannot be filtered off by the system, gets eaten up by sea creatures which we catch and in turn, consumed back into our bodies. That really hit home for me even though these were educational points put together to keep children informed of current World issues.
Over 70% of Singaporeans still fail to look into green alternatives for household cleaning products or any kind of recycling initiatives like Bring Your Own Bag at supermarkets. I am bending all hopes on my children's generation to make a difference to our vulnerable world in years to come. Of course, it has to start somewhere and today, as their mother, I am educating them on creating a chemical-free and healthy environment to live in - starting from their home.
It wasn't a pleasant first experience though because Faye cried her eyeballs out when I told her she had sprayed enough. The whole shirt was getting soaked with the Stain Remover! Then her brother came out to the patio and complained a million times over how I wasn't being fair because I didn't give him a chance to play with the spray bottle.
When I first opened the bottle, a strong whiff of pineapple came rushing out of the bottle and my first concern was, "Oh gosh! Are we all going to smell like pineapples?" I told the husband and he was worried that he'd turn into a walking pineapple in his business attire!
Thankfully, the smell coming out of our clothes after drying were fresh and crisp. There are two options of scent to the Laundry Detergent - Eucalyptus or Lemongrass [ours is the latter]. I welcome that subtle scent that didn't overpower the room like some detergents do. It is often a misconception that a strong flowery smell meant clean clothes. Well, could it mean it is topped with a whole lot of chemicals to achieve that?
With it being hypoallergenic and non-irritant, I am certain my children won't be scratching away from flaky irritable skin.
Food for thought: damp smells usually occur when bacteria attaches to the chemical molecules stuck in your clothes from chemical laundry detergents or fabric softener. Since Pipper Standard products contain no chemicals, it will leave no damp smells!
Faye is a girl through and through. She's got the mechanics of a typical woman in her DNA. Whenever I announce, "It's laundry time!" she would scamper in to help with laundry loading.

PIPPER STANDARD STAIN REMOVER
How timely that Faye stained her top for us to to give the Stain Remover a try! With their fermented pineapple fluid, the stain remover dissolves and eliminates tough stains while guarding colors and protecting fabric. Effective on food, berry juices, grass, poop and other stains like ink, blood, wine, sun block and other tricky stains. Oh that's what's said in their website and I cannot take their word for it without giving it a try myself. This was an old stain [one day old] which I didn't have time to rinse off immediately. So we pretreat the stain and left it in for 10-15 minutes on the rack before throwing it in the wash. She blasted away all the kiddy stains safely and effectively with Pineapple Power! Just look at the outcome!
PIPPER STANDARD LAUNDRY DETERGENT
Rooted in their fermented pineapple fluid, the laundry detergent is designed to clean naturally and effectively, with less foam all the while being free from chemicals and any known allergens. Most detergents in the market add harmful chemicals to create a foaming effect due to the common misconception that more foam equates to better cleaning. When I first opened the bottle, a strong whiff of pineapple came rushing out of the bottle and my first concern was, "Oh gosh! Are we all going to smell like pineapples?" I told the husband and he was worried that he'd turn into a walking pineapple in his business attire!

PIPPER STANDARD FABRIC SOFTENER
PIPPER STANDARD MULTIPURPOSE CLEANER

4. Spring Maternity
I cannot do a wash without pouring fabric softener into my mean machine. I dislike the rough after-feel of my clothes when I wash them without a softener. So I am glad Pipper Standard designed a product to complement their Laundry Detergent as well without me going to the supermarket shelf to look for one [usually the cheapest one on sale].
I read up on the ingredients they used to make their Fabric Softener and they believe they are the only fabric softener in the world that does not contain quaternary ammonium compounds (quats). Quats is a petrochemical used in fabric softeners worldwide. Quats are responsible for making fabric softer; however, they coat clothing and do not rinse out until the next wash cycle, leaving your skin exposed to dangerous chemicals as you wear your clothing.
Parents tend to overlook that parent’s clothing also has an effect on babies’ skin and forget that not only do they have to buy safe products for their kids but they should be using natural, safe products to wash their own clothes as well. What an insight! I haven't thought about it like that before and like most parents, been using only safe baby laundry detergents for Ewan and Faye when they were babies but regular adult detergent for the adults at home. Then again, how safe are baby detergents really? I think I'd trust a product that says they use fruits [pineapples] and herbs [lemongrass and eucalyptus] to make their products more than anything.
Instead of quats, Pipper Standard fabric softener use a blend of our fermented pineapple fluid and soy lecithin which allows their product to naturally soften fabric and prevent static cling without using any harsh chemicals.
Another reason to use Pipper Standard fabric softeners for you and your family is because we do not use any optical brighteners. Optical brighteners are synthetic chemicals added to make clothing appear whiter and brighter, and thus cleaner.
So much knowledge and so much to learn!
I love multipurpose cleaners. I mean let's talk about practicality? Why not have a cleaning agent that cleans everything tackling all types of dust, dirt and grime? It is safe for use on wood, ceramic, aluminum, computers or even car consoles!
My husband uses it to clean the interior of his car and I use it to clean up after the children after their Play-Doh session on the living room floor. Well no, this time, the kids clean up themselves! Of course, they fought over who got to spray and who got to wipe. Faye lost the argument because she sprayed the stains off her clothes the day before.
Ewan went crazy with the cleaning! He finds it a fun activity and I am thankful for that because the purpose of roping them into my household list of chores is to make it fun isn't it? Otherwise, I would have lost these extra hands from my little elves!
We had been using another brand of Multipurpose Cleaner for the past 10 years [loving it] but I've never allowed the children to touch it before. It is a concentrated liquid which needed to be blended with water and although it claims to contain no harmful chemicals, I am still afraid what concentrated liquids may do to my children if they accidentally touch their eyes with it.

WHERE TO BUY?
Oh no they aren't in your local supermarkets but they can be found at:
2. Pipper E-Shop
3. Redmart
4. Spring Maternity
I took a quick price comparison amongst the online stores. Redmart and Spring Maternity are currently going at about 20% off its retail price.
A 900ml of Laundry Detergent costs S$12.70 and a a 400ml Stain Remover costs S$10.30.
WHY ARE THERE THAI WORDS ON THE BOTTLES?
The products were developed after their founder, Peter Wainman, who moved to Thailand and suffered a severe allergic reaction (allergic dermatitis and asthma) to chemicals commonly found in laundry products in Asia. After being unable to find an alternative that met his standard on health, safety, environment, and cleaning ability, Peter and his wife decided to create their own natural products at home.
After 4 years of extensive research and development, Peter and his wife were able to create a fluid derived from pineapple fermentation process that yields powerful natural enzymes and biosurfactants that act synergistically to clean. With the goal to create a product that would be safe for their entire family including their young son. Peter and his wife commercialized this product and launched Pipper Standard in Thailand. They wanted to help out those who, like Peter, suffered from allergies and to provide the market with a safe, chemical-free alternative. Most importantly, they believed that it is children who are most vulnerable to developing new lifelong allergies, so they hope that parents with young children will be quick to adopt natural products.
